You have to love Caleb McLaughlin for being so public about wanting to play Miles Morales.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would love to play Miles,\u201d he told me Friday night at the premiere of his new animated movie \u201cGoat.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cStranger Things\u201d star has been a fan favorite to slip into the Spider-Man suit as Miles.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Miles represents something bigger than myself; it represents something bigger than most people,\u201d he said. \u201cAlso, being from New York [McLaughlin grew up in the Bronx] and then just seeing the \u201cSpider-Verse\u201d story, I just feel it\u2019s really, really connected and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means.\u201d<\/p>\n
Miles was most recently voiced by Shameik Moore in the animated \u201cSpider-Verse\u201d franchise. \u201cSinners\u201d star Hailee Steinfeld plays Gwen Stacy. A third and final \u201cSpider-Verse\u201d is set for release in June 2027.<\/p>\n
McLaughlin\u2019s latest comments come just about a month after speculation that he\u2019s been cast as Miles hit a fever pitch after the actor posted videos on social media of his gymnastics training.<\/p>\n
He recently ended his run as Lucas in \u201cStranger Things\u201d with the show\u2019s fifth and final season premiering on New Year\u2019s Eve. \u201cIt\u2019s a blessing,\u201d he said. \u201cLooking back on the past, I\u2019m truly grateful for everything that I went through, people that I\u2019ve met along the way and all the friends that I have. I am very grateful. I think life after the show is a new chapter and I\u2019m happy to start it with \u2018Goat.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGoat\u201d marks McLaughlin\u2019s first major role since \u201cStranger Things.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGoat\u201d tells the story of Will, a goat who gets a shot at playing a professional roarball, a basketball-like sport featuring the world\u2019s biggest and strongest animals. The cast also includes Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry (who is also producer on the film), Jennifer Hudson, Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, Jenifer Lewis, Aaron Pierre, Patton Oswalt, Andrew Santino, Bobby Lee, Eduardo Franco, Sherry Cola and Jelly Roll.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoat\u201d is in theaters on Feb. 13.<\/p>\n
