The stock was up over 8% in after-hours trading.<\/p>\n<p>Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the case for his company&#8217;s continued AI expansion \u2014 and its need to continue scaling infrastructure \u2014 after Meta&#8217;s fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday included a revenue beat but higher-than-expected capital spending.<\/p>\n<p>On capex, Meta said it expects to spend between $115 billion and $135 billion in 2026, compared to estimates for $110.62 billion.<\/p>\n<p>On the call with analysts, Zuckerberg said Meta was a &#8220;deep technology company&#8221; that should pursue its own frontier model rather than rely on others&#8217; APIs. As for the superintelligence lab, Zuckerberg gave the &#8220;unfulfilling&#8221; answer that he was optimistic about the future.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, ads are still the center of Meta&#8217;s business \u2014 and Zuckerberg acknowledged it.
